Updated: Mar 28

Join us as we show you how to turn your campfire into a celebration of fun and hidden talents, all while enjoying the fire's warm glow. Pack a few essentials to make the gathering more enjoyable.

Family around a campfire roasting marshmallows, smiling. RV and tent in the background, surrounded by trees. Warm, cozy evening vibe.

Bring a favorite family songbook for sing-alongs and nostalgia. Pack trivia cards for fun competitions around the fire.

For an unforgettable experience, make a checklist of must-have items like blankets for comfort, flashlights for evening adventures, and a first-aid kit for safety. The crackling flames can be as exciting as stadium cheers when you bring that energy outside. With these prep tips, we’ll help you master the art of Cheering and Chillin so you can imagine ways on how to keep the fun spirit alive around the campfire and throughout your glamping trip!

Snack Tray

Let’s set the scene. The sun is down, and the trees stand tall in the fading light. We settle into our cozy camping chairs with our favorite snacks.

Cheering is always better with a full stomach!

Stock up on ingredients for homemade trail mix or chocolate-covered pretzels to satisfy cravings. Try roasted marshmallows or classic kid-friendly options like fruit snacks and animal crackers. Bring allergy-friendly alternatives such as nut-free cookies, gluten-free crackers, dairy-free hot chocolate, or fresh fruit kabobs to ensure everyone's comfort. The little ones will love sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows, while the grown-ups enjoy whiskey and cider or non-alcoholic drinks like infused water or lemonade.

Snacks and drinks that appeal to all ages and dietary needs help everyone feel part of the celebration.

Young people enjoying time around the fire together

No campfire feels complete without a sing-along. When the fire is crackling, and everyone is laughing, it’s the perfect time to sing songs that bring back family memories and show off hidden talents.

We’ve noticed that the less musical talent you have, the more fun it gets! It’s not about singing perfectly; it’s about enjoying time together. “Sweet Caroline” is often our camping anthem, and we like to make up new lyrics, like, “Good times never seemed so good, unless Nana is cooking!” Our laughter usually drifts across the campsite and sometimes brings other campers over to join us.

Fire Pit

Once everyone is laughing, it’s the perfect moment to share funny camping stories that always bring a smile.

Every family has their favorite stories

Like Uncle Bob’s late-night run to the bathroom without a flashlight, or Nana running from bees while trying to keep up with hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail. We’ll never forget when Aunt Betty forgot her tent poles, and everyone pitched in to “hang” her tent with ropes. That was a real adventure. Story time around the campfire isn’t just for relaxing; it’s a chance to relive favorite memories, with everyone excited to act out their funniest moments.

As the flames flicker and stories are shared, we like to test our skills with a round of hidden talent trivia. This is when we really challenge our family, especially the kids, who sometimes think they know it all. We take turns asking questions like, "Who is the family animal whisperer, who can get animals from chickens to large horses to follow them anywhere?" or "Who is double-jointed and can twist their body into odd and uncomfortable positions?" and watch as everyone looks around the campfire, curious.

Man and two girls laughing by a campfire. RVs and pine trees in the background under a starry sky. Text on RV reads "National Parks".

To make sure everyone can participate comfortably, we include easy and fun questions for younger kids or those who are shy, like "Who can do the best animal impression?" or "Who is the fastest runner in the family?" For toddlers, questions like "Who can make the silliest face?" or "Who can hop on one foot the longest?" work well. We also adapt trivia and challenges to include options that involve sensory input or verbal communication, so everyone has fun regardless of their abilities. Family members who prefer not to move around can join by identifying sounds or scents from the campsite or suggesting new verses for our campfire songs.

Teens might enjoy challenges such as "Who can name the most songs in a minute?" or "Who can do the best celebrity impression?" Older adults might appreciate questions like "Who remembers a funny family moment from the past?" or simple puzzles that encourage reminiscing and storytelling. This helps everyone join in with confidence.

Prizes might be goofy trophies like an absurdly decorated cup or mug from a thrift store, mystery grab bags with inexpensive but useful items, or a "get out of one chore" coupon to be redeemed while glamping, which is the most-wanted prize in our family!

Friendly competition brings out everyone's passion, and we all get to show off our family trivia skills while keeping the group spirit strong.

Sitting around the fire with feet up

Don’t forget to add some wild cheer challenges! Nothing boosts our campfire spirit

more than making up cheers for family members, dogs, and even the prickly bush with strong roots that always seems to be in the middle of our campsite.

While the energy is high, remember to keep a safe distance from the fire to ensure everyone's safety and fun. Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby and set clear boundaries to prevent accidents. This reassurance eases any parental concerns, especially Nana’s, who always points out potential disasters. Our cheers often turn into a happy hour that looks more like interpretive dance. Watching Great Grandma shake her hips and shout “Go Trees!” always makes us laugh, and we all agree she’s our MVP for best performer!

Fruit and marshmallows on a stick

Let’s not forget about the food!

As we roast marshmallows and make S’mores, we get creative with fun names for our treats. Who wouldn’t want to try “Hidden Talent S’mores” made with peanut butter-filled chocolate, or “Family Zone Kabobs” with fruit and marshmallows on a stick? The grandkids always say adding sprinkles makes everything better, and we have to agree.

As the firelight flickers and laughter fills the night, remember that cheering and chillin' around the campfire brings your family closer. Whether you're singing silly songs, telling favorite stories, or playing trivia, these moments help build memories that last.

So grab your camping chairs, poke the fire, and show off your hidden talents! With the spirit high and the RV, yurt, cabin, or tent nearby, you’ll be making new memories in your family’s glamping story, a mix of fun, laughter, and strong connections.

Cheering and Chillin’ aren’t just activities; they’re what bring families together.

Sitting by the fire on a cold chilly day

But what if the weather isn’t on your side? Don’t worry; we've got you covered. If rain dampens your campfire plans or there's a fire ban, move the festivities indoors. Transform your RV or tent into a cozy storytelling hub with fairy lights and lanterns. Bring out compact indoor games like charades, card games, or story-building challenges that are perfect for small spaces. For family-friendly competition, these games require little space and add lots of fun. You can also start a dance party with a portable speaker. You can still enjoy those treats too, try making S’mores using a stove or microwave, and sip on hot chocolate while exchanging stories. With these rainy day alternatives, the fun continues no matter where you are!

Happy Glamping!

The tips for all ages feel like a little nod to how I grew up—and what I happily passed on to my kids. Familiar, comforting, and yet sprinkled with fresh, exciting ideas that still spark curiosity.

I’ve always been a devoted tent camper (rain, wind, or shine—bring it on!). My parents started us off under canvas, and eventually we “leveled up” to a pop-up camper, which we loved every minute of.

As I grew older, my heart stayed loyal to the rugged side of camping—the thrill of being self-sufficient, a little wild, and wonderfully unplugged. But I’ll admit… this has opened my eyes to a new possibility. Maybe—just maybe—it’s time to flirt with the camper life after all. 🚐

Thank you for sharing. Many experienced tent glampers find that having a camper means they can still enjoy remote, natural spots, but they return to a dry, comfortable bed and a private place to change or wash up after a long day of hiking.

It’s not replacing the adventure—it’s just changing the scenery. Welcome to the other side! 🚐⛺ The Best of Both Worlds!
